Self-Description: My father always said he was going to marry a redheaded woman someday, every since he saw a little redheaded girl riding a tricycle down a dirt road in Jennings, La. He was a young boy and had never seen anyone with hair like that. His mother was a Choctaw Indian and his father had dark hair and brown eyes. So, it is easy to see why he was so infatuated with red hair. As it turns out, he remained single until he was 30 years old, and had a reputation of being wild, and a bit of a womanizer. He liked to fox hunt and that is how he met my Uncle. They became close friends. My Uncle happened to be married to a lovely blond who just happened to have a baby sister, thirteen years younger than her, named Gay. Gay had flaming red hair and blue/green eyes. She was 17. One day when my father was visiting my Uncle, Gay came walking into the yard. For my father it was love at first site. He married her a year later. I was the third of four children; with my older brother and sister having very dark hair and eyes like my father. When pregnant with me, my mother had decided to name me Darla, after the cute brunette on "Little Rascals". She was so sure I'd be dark like her first two children. When they brought me out for my father to look at me, minutes after I was born, I had a head full of flaming copper/red hair. My father took one look at me and said, "her hair looks just like a new penny!" And so "Penny" is my name.

I have been told I have a horrible temper. I prefer to think I am merely a strong woman who stands up for herself and things that are right. I am very passionate about all aspects of my life; and VERY emotional. I was most certainly teased as a child, but I have always LOVED being a redhead; because it makes me unique. You may not find me attractive, but you WILL notice me when I walk into a room; there is no way you can miss me.

Regrettably, while both my sons were born redheaded, it did not last; their hair faded to a light brown. My sister did not have any redheads either. I have always longed for a redheaded daughter. I am engaged to a wonderful man and even though I am 41, I am seriously thinking of one more try for her.
